The Pies of Texas are Upon You

Comments Off 21 January 2010

Who doesn’t love pies?  If you don’t, all I can say is you’re on the wrong page!  Royers Round Top Cafe is located in Round Top, Texas with a Population of  about 80.  Round Top, Texas is just inbetween Austin and Houston.  The Round Top Cafe was purchased by the Royer family in 1987.   They built and marketed the Cafe into a well recongnized Texas institution and their success has been built on ‘word of mouth’ only.

The Royer Round Top Cafe is a Country-Style Cafe features Pork Tenderloin, Shrimp stuffed Quail, and The Great Steak OMG.  The cafe has hilarious shirts and bumber stickers like “I did not eat pie with that woman” (my fav), and “Remember the Alamode”.  The main feature…wait for it…the PIE, is what catches your eye.  Now I know you either have to be traveling through Texas or live here to sit down at the quaint Cafe but not to have the Pie.  Say Goodbye to the Fruit of the Month Club and hello to the 3-Month Pie Plan! With Pies like Buttermilk, Pecan, and the Famous Bud’s Chocolate Chip Pie! YUM…my mouth is watering.

Any Cowgirl LOVES Pies and this is the place to get them.  Infact, now through January 31st  any Pie purchase means money towards Haiti.  $1 for all Pie slices bought in the cafe, $3 from every whole Pie bought in the Cafe, and $5 for every pie purcahsed through mail order. Yes, you heard that right, if you want to support Haiti…EAT PIE!  How  terrific, is that?  Valentines Day is quickly approaching, how about his year instead of Chocolate…you purchase Pie! I think the Buttermilk is calling out to me…

Visit their website at http://www.royersroundtopcafe.com/.  And as Bud the Pieman says “May the Pies of Texas be Upon You!

It Happens!

In the Barn

It Happens!

A few weeks ago I went out to the barn and saddled my horse. I started leading him out to the arena, opened the gate, and all of a sudden he sat back.  I turned around expecting a snake or something horrendous like that.  I looked down and saw the whole leg of my saddle laying on the ground.  Fender, stirrup, the whole thing.

At first the blonde in me thought ‘dang it just fell right off’, but I knew better.  My horse was too close to the fence post and the hinge had caught my stirrup.  I went back to the barn and got another saddle out.  After a few minutes, here comes my Dad just to see what I am up too.  He saw my saddle and said “What in the world did you do”…instantly assuming I did something!  I said “I don’t know it just FELL off”.  He raised his eyebrows and gave me a look and said “that’s impossible” (which I would like to say, that it actually COULD happen).  I shrugged and said “Well, it did”.  He took my fender and stirrup, proceeded to walk to the gate, look down, see where my horse sat back, and looked at the gate.  He said “You didn’t open the gate wide enough”.  I said “Dad, yes I did…my horse just didn’t go in the middle”.  BUSTED!!  I tried to pull off the whole innocence thing but he didn’t fall for it.  I don’t know why I tried to act like nothing happened, I’m almost thirty years old and it was my saddle…but he’s still my dad, well that and the fact that anytime I do something stupid I like to try and cover it up!

Dad’s are funny that way.  It’s like he knew something happened and here he came to investigate and find out what I did.  So now here I am with a broken saddle, easily fixed; but still broken and in need of repair.  My first reaction was “Well, Dad looks like it’s time for a new saddle”…again the ‘look’.  I knew I didn’t need a new saddle but I want a new saddle.  So I got to looking at saddles.  My taste is usually simple, chic, but every now and then I like to go a little wild.  Here’s some of the ones that caught my eye.  Regardless of what you do in the Equine world…I hope ya like these!

Welcome Cowgirls

A Cowgirl is so many different things and comes in many forms.  Rancher, Barrel Racer, Stable Girl, Vet…my goal is to capture the essence of a Cowgirl in all areas of our lifestyle.  The cowgirl on the tractor putting out hay and then darting into town to pick the kids up from school, the one cleaning out stalls and then cooking dinner, the one shopping online while waiting for hay to be delivered. It’s about the one doctoring a wound on a horse where an old piece of tin has cut him and then going to a PTA meeting.  The one up at 3 a.m. making her husband breakfast before he goes out to start training and then eventually after a few loads of laundry and dishes…makes her way out to help him.  I myself am the rodeo cowgirl, with chores that this page wouldn’t even hold.  From doctorin’ cattle to cleanin’ out stalls and training horses to driving a tractor.
